Jasmine Hanner

Aloha! My name is Jasmine, and I am a curious human tumbleweed. I love to travel, and from this love grew a desire to become financially independent and discover a profession that allowed ultimate freedom.

Cuba, Guatemala, New Zealand, Morocco, Ireland... traveling to a new place is always at the back of my mind. The magic of new vistas, the freedom of being on the road, the eye-opening experience of the way others live around the world are all feelings I love to pursue. Current travel dreams: road trip through Iceland, New Zealand by motorbike, summer in France. You can find me on Instagram (@jewelsoftheearthandsea) if you'd like to follow my adventures!

I've always been a writer and editor. It wasn't until early 2018 that I considered it as a profession that could free me from the dry "9 to 5" (I was a bookkeeper and office administrator for a decade). I wrote myself a little note: where I wanted to be in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, and what it would take to achieve that.

Then, I did it. It's not as easy as it sounds, of course, but even I was completely taken aback that my plan worked so well. And I love to share everything I've learned with others!

A little background—my Mom was born in Cuba, and I'm very proud of my Cuban heritage. I grew up in West Virginia, Arizona, and Australia. Now I live in Maui. The Hawaiian islands are a complex melting pot of pristine beauty, insane amounts of unsustainable tourism, and rich, widely misunderstood culture.

Nature is my favorite place to get immersed with surfing, hiking, and photography. I'm also a maniac for cooking, eating (snacks are of utmost importance), writing, reading, discovering new methods of financial freedom... and, of course, traveling.

Mental health is also one of my favorite topics. I'm firsthand familiar with depression, social anxiety, insomnia, and PTSD, and have loved ones with moderate to severe mental illnesses—I'm free to chat with you anytime about these things if you'd like to reach out.

Thank you for reading and have a great day!
