Caramel Iced Lattes

My husband and I used to go to coffee shops to get our iced coffees, but since we've discovered how easy it is to make them at home, we've been saving tons of money. Caramel iced lattes are one of my favorite iced coffee drinks, and I'm going to show you how easy they are to make.

Lattes are made with strong espresso coffee, which is my favorite kind when it comes to coffee. For this recipe, I've ground the beans for two shots of espresso. I prefer a strong coffee flavor in my coffee. If you don't like your coffee as strong, you can make it with just one shot.

Note: If you don't have an espresso maker at home, don't worry. You can buy instant espresso coffee at the store. All you have to do is read the instructions before making the espresso.

Cold Brew vs. Iced Coffee

Before we go any further, I'd like to share some basic information about cold brew versus iced coffee.

Cold brew refers to the process of preparing the coffee—not the temperature of the final result. There are plenty of methods for making cold brew. Generally, it begins with scooping out the ground coffee into a jar or a pot, pouring in room temperature water, and then letting it soak for a while, usually 12 hours or more. When I make cold brew at home, I put the jar in the fridge overnight. The next day you will get a super-smooth, less acidic, and highly caffeinated coffee.

Iced coffee, on the other hand, is brewed using hot water to extract the flavor. You start with ground coffee, attach the portafilter to the espresso maker, and then let the machine do the work of extracting the flavor into a cup. Next, you take the espresso, pour it into a tall glass with ice cubes, and add milk. Finally, you can add your optional additions like coffee creamer and/or syrup such as caramel, vanilla, hazelnut, or French vanilla.

Ingredients

  • 1 to 2 shots espresso (the number of shots is your choice)
  • 1/2 to 1 cup organic whole milk (or low-fat milk)
  • 1/3 cup caramel creamer (or 1 1/2 tablespoons caramel sauce)
  • Ice cubes
  • Whipping cream (optional)

Directions

  1. Grind the coffee beans.
  2. Attach the portafilter to the espresso maker and let it run.
  3. In a tall glass, add the ice cubes and milk. Then pour in the coffee.
  4. Add the caramel flavor (caramel creamer or caramel sauce).
  5. Stir well with a spoon.
  6. Enjoy!

I'm happy to hear that, Alyssa. My husband and I are avid coffee drinkers. We love our coffee machines and accessories more than anything we have in the house. We love hot in the morning and cold in the afternoon.

I enjoy learning different types of coffee preparation. Now, that we less going to the coffee shops, making our favorite coffee at home is essential. Yea, I think you should try making caramel iced latte, Alyssa. Nowadays, you can find instant espresso at the store or online too.

I like caramel macchiato too. Hey, thanks for the idea. Perhaps, next, I can share the recipe and the guide. Thanks for the idea, Alyssa. Thanks for reading and commenting.

We are Kindred Spirits, Liza! I, too, love my coffee. I usually drink mine hot and black. Cold brew has always interested me, but I've never taken the time to try to learn how to make it. Thank you for breaking it down in easy steps! I just have a regular 12 pot coffee maker, so I love that you included an option of instant espresso. I'm adding that to my grocery list and I'm going to give your recipe a try! Do you know how to make a caramel macchiato? That is my favorite coffee treat and I would be so grateful if you had a simple recipe you could share to make them at home.

Hi Angel, I have tried Torino, but my favorite is Monin. So far, I have tried closer to 10 flavors. Caramel, French vanilla, salted caramel, hazelnut, tiramisu, maple, toffee, lavender, espresso, and butterscotch. I'm sorry to hear about your Keurig has stopped working. Perhaps time for a new one? Thanks for commenting.

I love the torino syrups. I've only seen 4 flavors. That coffee looks so yum. Great recipe! I'm sad my Keurig Vue recently stopped working after over 6 years of daily energizing refreshment.

You're welcome, Imogen French. The best thing about making iced coffee at home, you can choose what flavor you want in it. You control the sweetness and how strong you want the coffee flavor. Have a great summer!
