Delicious Dinner Dish for Your Family

My husband and I love trying new foods. Over the weekend, I decided to cook Mongolian beef. The dish is similar to a beef stir-fry with a lot of vegetables and different types of sauces. If you've ever been to a Chinese or Asian restaurant, you've likely seen this item on the menu.

I was surprised by how easy it was to prepare this dish at home. It's delicious with noodles or steamed rice. If you are a meat-lover or simply looking for a new recipe to try, I'd suggest giving this one a go. Enjoy it for dinner tonight!

Delicious! I served the Mongolian beef with noodles. If you don't have noodles you can serve with steamed rice.

Ingredients

For the beef:

  • 1 1/2 pounds beef, cut and trimmed
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch or potato starch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

For the sauce:

  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 teaspoons white vinegar
  • 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch or potato starch

For the stir-fry:

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 4 dried chilies (optional)
  • 1/2 medium white onion, chopped
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, cut into large strips or diced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, cut into large strips or diced
  • 1-2 serrano pepper, thinly sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the beef, baking soda, salt, cornstarch, water, and vegetable oil. Massage all ingredients into the meat. Set aside until ready to use, or you can cover with cling wrap and refrigerate until ready to cook.
  2. In a small bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients and set aside.
  3. Heat the oil to medium-high heat in a wok, and saute the garlic with serrano pepper until light brown.
  4. Stir in the beef and allow to cook undisturbed for about 1 minute. Stir and scrape the pan and cook for another 1 minute.
  5. Add the sauce, stirring constantly, and let it cook for about 2 minutes.
  6. Stir in all the vegetables and let them cook for about 2 minutes, or until the onion starts to turn translucent.
  7. Cook for another 10 minutes or to your preferred doneness (I prefer the meat well done).
  8. Transfer the dish to a serving plate or bowl. Serve with rice or noodles. Enjoy!
