This is a fun twist on the traditional ham and cheese sandwich. Instead of bread, I've used breakfast pancakes. It works surprisingly well! Try it today.

Ingredients

For the pancakes:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • Butter or oil, for cooking

For the coleslaw:

  • 1/4 medium cabbage, shredded
  • 1 small carrot, shredded
  • 1/2 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Other:

  • 3 slices sweet ham
  • 12 slices cheese

Utensils

For the pancakes:

  • 1 large bowl
  • 2 medium bowls
  • 2 small bowls
  • 1 medium plate
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • sieve
  • whisk

For the coleslaw:

  • 1 small plate
  • 2 medium bowls
  • 2 small bowls
  • measuring cups
  • spoon
  • chopping board
  • knife

To assemble the sandwich:

  • 1 large plate
  • chopping board
  • knife

For cooking:

  • 2 pans
  • turner or spatula
  • ladle
  • tongs

Instructions

Make the pancakes:

  1. In a bowl, beat eggs until a little bit fluffy.
  2. Add in water, cooking oil and vanilla extract. Mix.
  3. Dilute sugar and salt into the liquid mixture. Continue mixing until ingredients are dissolved. Set aside.
  4. In the same bowl, sift and combine all-purpose flour and baking powder. Whisk thoroughly. Set aside once done.
  5. Heat and grease pan with 1 tablespoon of butter or cooking oil.
  6. Scoop pancake mixture using 1/3 measuring cup. Pour mixture at the middle of the pan and just allow it to spread out.
  7. Cook the bottom side of the pancake until bubbles start to come out. Once done, flip it over. Cook the other side until golden brown in color.

Make the coleslaw:

  1. Prepare all the ingredients.
  2. Mix cabbage, carrots, onions and mayonnaise in a bowl.
  3. Season with salt and pepper.

Assemble the sandwich:

  1. Heat small amount of oil in a pan. Cook ham. Set aside.
  2. In a plate, lay a piece of pancake. Top with ham, cheese, coleslaw and another piece of pancake.
  3. Serve with your favorite drink.

Tips and Techniques

  • Separate the egg yolk from egg white. Beat the egg white first until a little bit fluffy before adding the yolk.
  • To make it creamier, use water rather than milk.
  • Use butter for a nuttier taste.
  • Cook over low heat for better results.
  • Adjust the seasoning for the coleslaw.
  • Replace coleslaw with the usual sandwich vegetables: lettuce, tomato, and cucumber.
